The Vilnius Declaration
On Friday 29 August, 2003, participants at WITFOR 2003 in Lithuania adopted the Vilnius Declaration.
The Declaration defined information society development guidelines, and is a tool to be used by developing countries in defining their priorities.
WITFOR 2003 also served as preparation for the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS). This focused on issues of information society development and was held in Geneva on December 10-12, 2003.
WITFOR 2003, and the adoption of the Vilnius Declaration, made a substantial contribution to the WSIS.
The final Vilnius Declaration can be read and/or downloaded here (184Kb PDF).
